Does marble need to be sealed?
This is one of the most often asked questions, and one that we wish everyone knew the answer to. Marble should, in fact, be sealed! It is a permeable stone, which many people are unaware of. As a result, if you spill something on it, it will absorb the liquid directly into the stone. The amount of harm varies depending on the drug. If you pour water on the marble, for example, it might react with the calcium in the inside, leaving etch scars.
What is the best marble sealant to apply, and how often should it be applied?
There are a few marble sealant alternatives, the most of which fall into the penetrating or topical sealer categories. We can’t emphasize enough how crucial it is to apply a penetrating sealer since it will truly penetrate the stone’s pores. This allows the stone to breathe while still keeping it protected. Topical sealers only provide a thin layer of protection and can quickly become dull or hazy.
Then you must choose between an oil-based and a water-based sealer. Both will do the job, but water-based sealers are healthier for the environment and speed up the sealing process. Unless it’s a surface that receives very minimal use, we usually recommend sealing your marble on an annual basis. This is less likely to be sealed.
Is it necessary for me to polish my marble?
Certainly not. It all depends on how you’re going to use it and how you’re going to care for it. If you don’t clean up the grit from abrasion correctly, your finish will wear more faster in a heavy usage area. For your marble, you may pick between a honed finish, which has a stain finish, and a polished finish, which has a much shinier surface.
